The Sacred River Walk

The Ganga Aarti, a gathering on the banks of the Ganges River where people sing bhajans and give adoration to the revered river, is the highlight of this walk. Bhajans are songs of adoration and praise that are offered to a deity.

The walk will begin at the Shri Bharat Temple at 4:30 PM and end at the Triveni Ghat during the "Ganga Arti" ceremony. You will pass through commercial centers and have the opportunity to do some street shopping during the walk.

Shri Bharat Temple

The temple is named after Bharat, Lord Rama's brother and is an ancient temple. This is believed to be established in the year A.D. 789. Hindu scriptures Vishnu Puran, Bhagwat Gita, Mahabharat, Vaman Puran and Narsingh Puran mentions this temple.

The Ganga Aarti

Aarti is a devotional ritual and uses fire as an offering made to the Goddess Ganga, also called 'Ganga Maiya'. Priests chant slokas and bhajans are sung while the daily ritual is performed. Tiny earthen pots called diyas are lit with candle and flowers and are floated in the river.
